Frank Sita

Alexander Frank Sita II grew up in New Orleans, LA as an avid sports fan of Louisiana State University (LSU) sports and the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League. Saw my first LSU football game at age 5 with my father, John, and my first Saints game at age 8 when the Saints first started at old Tulane Stadium.

Graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a BS Degree in Photojournalism in 1982. Started my newspaper career as chief photographer in 1983 for the St. Tammany News-Banner in Covington, LA and wrote sports on the side for the twice-weekly newspaper. Moved on the Morgan City Daily Review in 1985 in Morgan City, LA. Covered Louisiana high school sports, LSU football and the New Orleans Saints sports and photos for both newspapers as a true photojournalist.

Moved to Dothan, AL in 1986 as a sports writer and covered Alabama high school sports, the University of Alabama and Auburn University sports for the Dothan Eagle newspaper and then on to the Opelika-Auburn News in 1987, writing stories until 1995 for the six-day daily newspaper.

I won numerous awards for both photography and sports writing, starting off with a Louisiana Press Association award for coverage of the 1984 World’s Fair and added a full-page photographic essay on the Gulf Coast Limited Amtrak train between New Orleans and Mobile, AL.

In Alabama, I won an Alabama Sports Writers Association award for spot sports coverage of the 1989 Alabama-Auburn football game – the first game between the two schools at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn. Also, I won two APA awards for high school sports reporting on the 1991 coaching changes and non-deadline reporting on the Alabama High School Playoffs in 1992.

Finally, I won numerous Alabama Press Association awards for Best Sports Page in the Small Newspaper Category four years in a row for spot sports, beat feature article, best deadline story, best non-deadline story and best column.

Currently, I am a sports writer for several internet websites, including Southeastcollegesports.com and RealFootball365.com and my own personal sports blog, Southeastcollegesports.blogspot.com writing college sports stories and features covering mostly Southeastern Conference sports.
