Debate of "E" 2006-09-12 09:34:28 | By: Carson
Win or lose, Abreu or Conine, Lidle or Moyer, Franklin or Smith, Coke or
Pepsi, Downy or Bounce, McDonald's or Wendy's...I have been watching every
game of the 2006 Philadelphia Phillies season. We are now down to the
waning moments of the year, and it's "make or break" time. The Phillies
seem to be breaking rather than making, but believe it or not, they're still
in it. This all leads me to my musings or - Debate of "E". "E"
means many things for the Phils for the remaining games: entertainment,
error, energy, or empty. Which "E" will it be?1. Entertainment or Error? Entertainment- Ryan Howard is pure excitement. Not only is he leading the Majors in homeruns and rbi's, he's batting above .300 too! Error-Charlie Manuel is making a strong case for the '06 Oscar Award for best depiction of a person with mental challenges. In an interview Manuel admitted to watching film of other leading men who've done similar roles. So far Manuel is outdoing previous performances by Billy Bob Thorton in Sling Blade, Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump, Sean Penn in I Am Sam, and Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man 2. Energy or Empty? Energy- Following the departure of Sir Walks Alot (Abreu), the Phillies played with renewed vigor. Over the month of August their zest for the game was evident. Empty- Over this past weekend many of the players looked on "E"...empty that is! Somebody please get these guys some Red Bull or a PowerBar. Wait, they're on the MLB banned substance list...just get them some HGH and we'll be good to go! In all fairness to the Phillies, they've played their hearts out during the month of August and should be applauded for showing a tremendous amount of moxie. September has been a constant up and down, as fans go from Cloud 9 to the depths of Hell. I honestly believe this team will fall short of the Wild Card, but I'll be rooting for them every step of the way. |
