NHL- The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Trades

Folks, I think it's time we look over the trades made at the deadline this week. The Good the Bad and The Ugly. Let's analyze who made some good decisions and some not-so-good decisions.

The first big trade of the day was Brian Campbell leaving for the Sharks. In return, the Sabres get a first round pick and Steve Bernier.

Outcome: A first round pick can do the Sabres no harm. And a great performance from Bernier in his debut, showed he's got heart and talent. He scored the first to goals for Buffalo!

Campbell is a top-notch defenseman. Perhaps Buffalo's best until the trade. Sharks whose D couldn't get much better, just added another cinderblock to that strong defensive wall.

This trade:
For the Sabres: Good
For the Sharks: Good

-------------------------

How about Cristobal Huet to the Caps for a 2nd round draft pick. In my opinion Montreal got the short end of the wishbone. How so? You have to believe a goalie like Huet is worth a first-round draft pick, and if you want some evidence to back this up, in his first game for Washington, he shut out the Devils. Because Washington's goaltending was never to good, this changes everything. All teams should now consider the Capitals a postseason team and a threat. This team can score. Their only problem was goaltending and defense.

This trade:
For the Canadiens: Bad
For the Capitals: Great

-------------------------

Here's my favorite trade of the day... Dallas recieves Johan Holmqvist and Brad Richards and gives the Tampa Bay Lightning Jussi Jokinen, Mike Smith And Jeff Halpern.

This trade is awesome both ways. Tampa Bay eliminates the problem by trading Holmqvist. He's decent but not good enough. Goaltending is why they aren't making the playoffs. Then they fix that leak by picking up Dallas' solid backup and will likely have him start in goal. Jussi Jokinen= Shootout Beast. For Dallas, picking up Brad Richards only helps their team keep winning. Suddenly, their on the tail of Detroit. Brad Richards proved to be a big factor, with 5 ASSISTS in his 1st Game!!!

This trade:
For Dallas: Great
For Tampa Bay: Awesome!

-------------------------

Pittsburgh gives Erik Christensen and Colby Armstrong to the Thrashers for Marcel Hossa and Dupuis.

What was the Penguins GM thinking? Christiansen and Armstrong are the future of your team. There who'll lead you to the Cup in the years to come. You give them away so you can have Hossa for this year. Hossa likely won't sign with the Penguins next year. What was the point of giving away your future. It hurts Pittsburgh even more now that Hossa hurt himself in his first game but he should be back.

This Trade:
For the Thrashers: Good
For the Penguins: Bad

It was crazy to see all of the different debut performances. For Buffalo, Bernier scores the first 2 goals. For Washington, Huet shuts out the Devils. For the Stars, 5 assists for Brad Richards. Most of these trades were good for both sides and will play a big part down the stretch...
